Formerly involved in the theatre and in dance, my current figurative work in clay, drawing and painting explores the qualities of each medium used while dealing with issues of identity and the premises on which we base our social behaviour.
Stylistically, influences include Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism, Philosophically, Existentialism and Phenomenology.
My professional practice as a visual artist has convinced me of the need for visual artists to adopt the same kind of direct relationship to audience that is proper to the performing arts.
In view of this, I have concurrently practiced as an art educator in art centers as well as privately and as a gallery curator in a number of not-for profit environments.
I approach this work as a practicing artist, creating exhibition and learning experiences in which I sometimes risk and experiment as much as I ask ‘my’ artists and students to do.
